Signing of Memorandum of Understanding between BPDLH and Perum Perhutani

(2020, Sept 9) In order to support forest preservation and improve the economic system of people living around or in forest areas, or who depend on the forestry sector (factory sharing program) as well as realizing improvements in the forestry industry and reducing poverty for forest-dependent people as well as reducing deforestation and forest degradation, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the President Director of the Environmental Fund Management Agency (BPDLH) and the President Director of the State Public Forestry Company (Perum Perhutani, one of State Owned Enterprises/SoE) at the BLU BPDLH office at Wisma Antara, Jakarta. In connection with the COVID-19 pandemic, the implementation of the event is carried out symbolically by still paying attention to health protocols and restrictions on invited participants.

The implementation of this collaboration is a manifestation of the activities to support environmental protection and management programs between the BPDLH as the government representative who carries out the task of distributing environmental funds with Perum Perhutani as the SoE representative that manages state forest resources to support environmental sustainability, economy of forestry community, and socio-cultural systems. The implementation of the synergy between the two institutions is aimed at realizing improvements in the forestry industry and reducing poverty for people who depend on forests while reducing deforestation and forest degradation.

The MoU signed between BPDLH and Perum Perhutani has the scope for distributing environmental funds to beneficiaries in the form of programs and financing for sustainable forestry businesses, synergies in the context of social forestry development, and increasing access and financing schemes for forestry businesses and environmental investments. In addition, the signing of the MoU is also an evidence of the Government’s commitment in carrying out the mandate in Government Regulation number 46 of 2017 concerning Environmental Economic Instruments and Presidential Regulation number 77 of 2018 concerning Management of Environmental Funds to distribute environmental funds and synergize protection and environmental management in a transparent, prudent, effective, efficient, proportional and accountable manner.
